Spike Lee will be teaming up with Universal and porcupine-coiffed super-producer Brian Grazer, through his Imagine Entertainment, to direct L.A. RIOTS, a drama based on
the infamous racially-fueled riots that erupted in Los Angeles in 1992 after a jury acquitted four white police officers who had been videotaped beating black motorist Rodney King. Writer John Ridley (UNDERCOVER BROTHER) has come onboard to pen the screenplay with all parties interested in having a working draft before the entire Hollywood community shuts down completely for the holidays. When asked about the film, Lee mentioned “This isn’t about some cavalcade of stars, but rather a truthful and realistic examination of what happened, what the ramifications were and where we are now, in hopes that something like this doesn’t happen again.” Lee is coming off the HBO documentary “When the Levees Broke” and is currently working on an INSIDE MAN sequel.
