When it comes to Lee Daniels (THE BUTLER, PRECIOUS), all talk has pointed towards a Richard Pryor biopic starring Mike Epps. However it looks as if Daniels is also itching to dive into the horror genre with a tale about demonic possession dubbed DEMON HOUSE. The story is based on the real-life Latoya Ammons, in which her and her family claimed to have been under the attack and influence of hundreds of demons in their Gary, Indiana home. Given Daniels involvement with the Pryor picture, shooting won't gear up until sometime 2015.
While I haven't gotten around to checking out THE BUTLER yet, PRECIOUS was a horror film of sorts, presenting an unsavory tale of a person dealing with some truly rough circumstances. Frankly, I'd love to see more high-profile directors tackle the horror genre. I get the feeling that sometimes it's looked upon with a 'shrug' due to the ridiculous amounts cheap fare that's produced every year. The only aspect that holds back my excitement is that this is yet another demon possession film. Reading about what the family claimed to have gone through, it sounds like a movie based on the events would be a mix between THE EXORCIST and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Possession flicks have been done to death and if you're going to do one, you really need to shake things up in order to stand apart from all the others.
