This could be interesting. Lee Daniels, the man behind THE BUTLER, THE PAPERBOY and PRECIOUS, is going to try his hand at the horror genre with DEMON HOUSE, reports Deadline. The film is a fact-based thriller centered on Latoya Ammons and her family, who claim to have been victims of a demonic possession that has spanned over two years and counting. After the success of THE CONJURING, a movie based on the Ammons family seems like a no-brainer for Relativity, who are financing and distributing the film.
According to them, all sorts of weird shit has gone down in their home, from Latoya's daughter unconsciously levitating above her bed to failed exorcisms and kids being dragged across the ceiling. Why is it that every "true" haunted house story sounds exactly the same? Either demons are incredibly monotonous or somebody is full of shit, lots of it.
These "true" stories have spawned some really good films over the years along with plenty of bad ones, so it'll be interesting to see what a talented mind like Daniels brings to the table of haunted house horrors. One thing is for sure, though, he seems to always line up a solid cast for his films, which gives me hope for DEMON HOUSE, as tired as I am of these "based on a true story" flicks.
