Many of the most popular and/or beloved elements from the original 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS are present in the new reboot. Proton packs, the logo, Slimer, even stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver show up to make cameos. Among the things brought back and retooled is the "Ghostbuster mobile" Ecto-1.
A new featurette has been released for GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 that focuses entirely on the new iteration of the Ecto-1, showing how and why this team of Ghostbusters acquires the vehicle and decides to make some modifications to it. While the original Ecto-1 was made out of a 1959 Cadillac Ambulance, the new one is a Cadillac hearse from 1984.
The Ghostbusters are played by Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones in this film, which was directed by Paul Feig. Feig also wrote the screenplay with Katie Dippold. The story:
Dead criminals from all eras of New York’s underbelly past have returned to roost among the living in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. Pilgrims, old-timey sailors, Revolutionary War spirits, and even a couple of zoot-suited gangsters are ready to take on four formidable female busters looking to rid the city of its phantasmic filth.
The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, Cecily Strong, Charles Dance, and a cameo by Ozzy Osbourne.
We know that Ernie Hudson will be driving a hearse in his cameo, and in this featurette Leslie Jones' character repeatedly makes reference to the fact that her uncle is a hearse-driving funeral home owner, so I'm guessing that Hudson is playing her uncle.
We'll find out when GHOSTBUSTERS is released on July 15th.
