This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for GAME OF THRONES Season 8, Episode 4. Read at your own peril!
UPDATE: After enduring the wrath of the GAME OF THRONES fan community following last night's "Coffeegate" incident, the network has issued a statement regarding the gaffe heard round' the world of social media. As part of their official word on the matter, HBO stated, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.” Hey-o!
Well how do you like that? HBO is actually leaning into the faux pas, which is exactly how you should roll through what is assuredly an embarrassingly funny moment for the premiere cable network. I say good on them, and hell hath no fury like a Mother of Dragons who does not get to enjoy her Honey Citrus Mint Tea.

As far as GAME OF THRONES fan reactions go, you'd think that the deaths of Rhegal, Daenerys' dragon, and Greyworm's beloved Missandei, would be the talk of the town after last night's episode of HBO's swords and sorcery drama. However, we live in a time when people often zero in on the most inane elements of entertainment, regardless of how unimportant they might be to the big picture. That being said, a new player entered the Game of Thrones last night, thanks to a coffee cup that was left on the set during the filming of GOT's "The Last of the Starks" episode.
Eagle-eyed viewers noticed the gaffe – which took place during the post-Winterfell battle afterparty – as a disgruntled Daenerys ruminated on her chances of the people of the Seven Kingdoms accepting her as their new queen.

As far as film mistakes go, the offense is really quite tame. What makes this moment particularly funny is how out-of-place the cup of Joe looks against the grim atmosphere of Winterfell. Add to that the fact that everyone in the room is slugging either goblets of ale or horns filled with wine, and you've got the making of a very stark mistake on behalf of the program's production team. Oh, and let's not forget that each Season 8 episode reportedly cost $15 million to make, so yeah … leaving a caramel macchiato in the shot does break the fourth wall something fierce.
Ah well, it's all a part of the fun, right? This is indeed the last season of GAME OF THRONES, so we might as well extract every bit of enjoyment from it that we can, no? If you ask me, Starbucks should be on the horn with HBO right now, brokering a deal for a Mother of Dragons-brand latte. They'd make more money than what's in the Lannister's coffers with that drink, I'll tell you what.
