There are Commando vibes in the trailer for director Fansu Njie’s upcoming action thriller Last Man Down, which Saban Films will be releasing on VOD on October 19th. That’s not to say the movie looks like it will be as good as that 1985 Arnold Schwarzenegger / Vernon Wells / Mark L. Lester classic, but it’s clearly “in the vein of” and could be an entertaining action flick.

Scripted by Andreas Vasshaug from a story Njie crafted with the film’s star, Norwegian bodybuilder Daniel Stisen, Last Man Down has the following synopsis:

After civilization succumbs to a deadly pandemic and his wife is murdered, John Wood – a special forces soldier – abandons his duty and becomes a hermit in the Nordic wilderness. Years later, a wounded woman appears on his doorstep. Maria Johnson is an escaped lab rat, and her pursuers believe her blood is the key to a worldwide cure. Though John is hesitant to get involved, all doubts are cast aside when he discovers Maria’s pursuer is none other than Commander Stone, the man that murdered his wife some years ago.

Stisen is joined in the cast by Olga Kent, Daniel Nehme, Stanislav Yanevski, Madeleine Vall, and Natassia Malthe. Stisen has nearly 50 screen roles to his name, although he was uncredited for some of the largest projects he appeared in, including Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow, Justice League, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and the James Bond movie Spectre.

This is the second feature film from Njie, coming long after his debut, the 2002 Swedish hip-hop comedy Crackaparkz.

I have a lot of nostalgia for the simple shoot ’em up action movies we got all the time in the ’80s and ’90s, so I’m going to be giving Last Man Down a chance when it’s released in October. Check out the trailer in the embed above and see if this looks like something you’d like to watch later this year.
