While I’m sure some of you were watching Beyoncé, Adele and plenty of other attractive people acting foolish on the Grammy’s stage last night, another star-studded gala was being held to celebrate some flicks — the BAFTA awards. The ceremony marked the final big awards evening before the Oscars on February 26 and, of course, a certain little movie about tap dancing on the freeway won the night. LA LA LAND is now poised to take top honors at the Oscars, so now it’s less what you think will win best picture and more do you think LAND deserves it. Meanwhile, MANCHESTER BY THE SEA and LION got some love (actor and original screenplay; supporting actor, adapted screenplay) and in the tech categories we really see the love being spread. Movies like MOONLIGHT were completely shut out, and though nothing is written, this could mean a trophy-less evening for the truly fantastic film on Oscar night.
