La La Land director Damien Chazelle produces musical show The Eddy

Look, MOONLIGHT definitely deserved the Best Picture Oscar last year over LA LA LAND. And yes LA LA LAND is super overrated (the characters are overly stock and Ryan Gosling is surprisingly – haltingly – unlikeable for a lot longer than I think the film intended). However Damien Chazelle‘s modern romantic musical was still fun, engaging, and energetic. Sure, it didn’t re-invent the wheel, though there was an attempt to try (by merging the aesthetics of a modern indie romance with the lavish production and saturated colors of ’40s and ’50s musicals), so there’s that. Anyway, I like LA LA LAND, so sue.

Anyway, it looks like David Chazelle – director of LA LAND – has another musical project on the way, this one set in Paris,
France called THE EDDY. Here’s the synopsis, according to Deadline:

The Netflix original will feature dialogue in French, English and Arabic. Set in contemporary Paris, it revolves around a club, its owner, the house band, and the chaotic city that surrounds them. Original music will be penned by Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill,” Michael Jackson’s “Bad”).

Meanwhile, Chazelle will executive produce and direct two episodes of THE EDDY, while Jack Thorne (and not Chazelle) will do writing duties. The series will reported be eight-episodes and stream on Netflix.

Meanwhile, no release date has been set at this time, but it’s expected to come out late next year.
