Kurt Russell & Wyatt Russell board Apple’s Godzilla series

Kurt Russell, Godzilla series

It’s been a while since Kurt Russell appeared in a live-action TV series, but he’s set to do just that as he’s joined the cast of Apple TV+ and Legendary Television’s Godzilla series; Not only that, but his son Wyatt Russell has also signed on.

Following the “thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the Monsterverse serieswill explore one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.” In addition to Kurt and Wyatt Russell, the Godzilla TV series will also star Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski. If you’re curious just how long it’s been since Kurt Russell appeared in a live-action TV series, his last TV credit was an episode of Hawaii Five-O back in 1977. I’m curious to see what sort of role Kurt Russell will be playing in the Godzilla series, and it will be a treat to see father and son (hopefully) acting side by side. Will they be playing father and son? Or perhaps Wyatt will play a younger version of Kurt’s character?

The Godzilla TV series has been created by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), with the pair also serving as executive producers and Black serving as showrunner. WandaVision director Matt Shakman is onboard to direct the series’ first two episodes and will also executive produce alongside Safehouse Pictures’ Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, and Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd.

Legendary’s Monsterverse began in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla and expanded to include Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong. The MonsterVerse franchise has grossed close to $2 billion worldwide so far. A new Monsterverse movie is in development with Adam Wingard returning to direct, and it was announced earlier this year that Dan Stevens would be starring in the movie. There’s also an anime Skull Island series in development for Netflix.
