Kurt Russell is the most badass Santa yet in Christmas Chronicles trailer

Santa has gone through more iterations on screen than Batman, but now all of the cinematic versions of the big man are hereby worthless now that Kurt Russell is donning the red suit and bushy beard. If there’s anyone you want to trust with your presents, it’s him, and in the first trailer for the movie THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES on Netflix Russell’s Santa has to work with two children (Darby Camp, Judah Lewis) to save Christmas after they ruin things by trying to capture Saint Nick on camera. Don't worry, folks; Christmas is in safe, dashing hands now.

Christmas movies are a dime a dozen, so naturally, approaching this one with a bit of skepticism or disinterest is valid. However, once Russell comes on screen all those cynical feelings get stuffed in a sack and you get sucked into his take on the cookie-eating joy bringer. He's suave and charming and even puts on what looks like an impromptu jazz performance in a jail cell, all before barreling down the street in a Charger. This Santa is, dare I say, a bit more badass than the others who have come on screen in the past. Sorry, Tim Allen, your grunting has only taken your Santa so far.

Chris Columbus of HOME ALONE and HARRY POTTER 1 & 2 fame is producing the movie with Clay Kaytis (ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE) directing. Both men had some kind words to say about Russell, who they hope defines the role for a new generation:

THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES, a holiday adventure from producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone") and director Clay Kaytis ("The Angry Birds Movie"), tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas.
