One moment, you've got a perfect, loving relationship, and the next, you're on the run with your partner after being falsely accused of murder. It's a tale as old as time. Kumail Nanjiani (THE ETERNALS) and Issa Rae (Insecure) find themselves in exactly that situation in THE LOVEBIRDS, a new romantic comedy from director Michael Showalter (THE BIG SICK). When a man falls on their car and takes off, someone claiming to be a police officer commandeers their vehicle to chase the man down and run him over, which leaves Kumail Nanjiana and Issa Rae in a rather awkward spot when they're accused of the crime. Toss in some action hijinks and some EYES WIDE SHUT shit, and you've got the makings of what looks to be a fun little comedy.
The official synopsis for THE LOVEBIRDS:
A couple (Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.
THE LOVE BIRDS will hit theaters on April 3, 2020.
