Kristen Bell is slated to star in The Woman in the House, an eight-episode limited-series for Netflix that The Good Place star will also executive produce. The darkly comedic thriller series will find Bell starring as the heartbroken Anna. For her, every day is the same. She sits with her wine, staring out the window, watching life go by without her. But when a handsome neighbor moves in across the street, Anna starts to see a light at the end of the tunnel. That is until she witnesses a gruesome murder… Or did she?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's more to The Woman in the House than that synopsis, because it sounds a little too much like all the other REAR WINDOW knock-offs out there, including THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, a thriller from director Joe Wright that Netflix is also releasing which stars Amy Adams and Gary Oldman. The Woman in the House has been created by Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson, and Larry Dorf, who created and starred in the TV Land series Nobodies.
Kristen Bell wrapped up a four-season run on The Good Place earlier this year, and is currently starring in Central Park, an animated series on Apple TV+. Bell voiced Molly, one of the main characters on the series who happens to be mixed-race, but Bell stepped down this summer in order to make way for another actress to take on the role. "Casting a mixed-race character with a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race and Black American experience," Bell said. "It was wrong and we, on the Central Park team, are pledging to make it right. I am happy to relinquish this role to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal and I will commit to learning, growing and doing my part for equality and inclusion." Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy) will voice Molly in the second season of the series, with Bell set to voice a new character.
