Here’s a bit of casting news from DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Geez, couldn’t they cut the title down some? I even shortened it when I originally wrote the title for this article.
Kodi Smit-McPhee joins the sequel helmed by Matt Reeves (CLOVERFIELD). This is not the first time that the two have worked together. The pairing began for LET ME IN which co-starred Chloe Moretz. She will not be in this, however.
Recently, Smit-McPhee voiced the lead in FRANKENWEENIE (which was pretty cute). The young actor has been quite busy with THE CONGRESS, THE WILDERNESS OF JAMES, ROMEO & JULIET, and A BIRDER’S GUIDE TO EVERYTHING. Kid’s got his plate very full. I like him as an actor so far. He was great in THE ROAD opposite Viggo Mortensen. No one else has been cast thus far, and I’m guessing James Franco still hasn’t received a phone call.
We have no plot details as of yet, so we aren’t sure who will take the lead– humans or apes. The first installment wasn’t so bad. Andy Serkis did an exceptional job, as always.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is set to arrive in theaters on May 23rd, 2014.
