G'day, mates! Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Hulu are preparing to take a trip down under with a new animated series. Look out, Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, and Animal Man, because Koala Man is about to enter the dangerous world of crime-fighting.
Hulu has picked up Koala Man for an eight-episode order, which Roiland will executive produce. The show, from creator Michael Cusack (YOLO: Crystal Fantasy), is a family comedy where the patriarch (voiced by Cusack) has a not very secret identity as Koala Man, an Australian suburban hero with no power greater than a passion to stop petty crime and bring order to his community. Meanwhile, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez (Detective Pikachu, Apple's Central Park) will act as showrunners on the new series.
Disney's 20th Television Animation will produce, with Cusack, Samit, Hernandez, and Roiland executive producing with Princess Pictures and Bento Box (Bob's Burgers, The Great North). Koala Man marks another stellar pick-up for Hulu, which continues to strengthen its animated offerings as time marches on. The streamer already hosts shows like Roiland's Solar Opposites, Crossing Swords, and two upcoming Marvel series: M.O.D.O.K. and Hit Monkey. Hulu subscribers are also invited to enjoy series from Disney's Fox merger, including Bob's Burger, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Futurama, and American Dad. While your mileage may vary from show to show, there's no doubt that Hulu is quickly becoming quite the hub for animated antics on the small screen.
Will you be checking out Koala Man? What do you think his catchphrase will be? I have a few ideas, but most of them contain profanity or sexual innuendo, so I won't be posting them here. Anyway, be sure to check out Koala Man when it climbs onto Hulu, and don't forget that Season 2 of Solar Opposites drops this Friday.
