I’ll admit to believing that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie would join the ranks of the many video-game movie failures, but here we are, with a sequel released last year and another on the way. There’s also a spin-off TV series centered around Knuckles with Idris Elba once again voicing the character. The cast of the Knuckles TV series has now added five new members.

Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Stockard Channing (Grease), Paul Scheer (Veep), and Rob Huebel (Children’s Hospital) have joined the cast of the Knuckles TV series. The nature of their characters remains unknown at this time. Previously announced cast members include Adam Pally, who will be reprising the role of Wade Whipple, as well as Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor. Rory McCann and Tika Sumpter will also guest star in the series, with Sumpter reprising her role of Maddie from the movies.

The Knuckles TV series will be set between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. According to the official logline, the series will follow Knuckles as he “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.Sonic the Hedgehog 2 co-writer John Whittington wrote the script for the Knuckles pilot and will serve as head writer and executive producer on the series. Jeff Fowler, who helmed both Sonic movies, will direct the pilot and also serve as executive producer. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Idris Elba are also onboard the series as executive producers, with Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker directing the remaining episodes of the series.

Knuckles will debut on Paramount+ in late 2023, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 slated to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
