With more time being spent at home, many people are finding films on streaming services that they may have missed when they were first released. In the case of 2015's KNOCK KNOCK Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas star in this straight-to-video release that is finding a brand new life on the platform.
KNOCK KNOCK jumped into the Netflix top 10 over the weekend (as of this writing it is sitting at number three). This information is made available now that Netflix has unveiled its new “Top 10” feature which gives you a daily look at the "Top 10" movies and shows on the platform. This is a bit surprising since the film is five years old and wasn't really embraced by critics but its resurgence could be due to the fact that its stars Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas, who was largely unknown outside of Spain, have surged in popularity since the film was initially released. Reeves took off once again with the JOHN WICK franchise while de Armas would go on to land a role in BLADE RUNNER 2049 before really breaking out as a part of 2019's ensemble murder mystery comedy, KNIVES OUT. The actress will also have a featured role in next year's latest Bond film, NO TIME TO DIE.
KNOCK KNOCK, which is directed by Eli Roth, is a remake of the 1977 film DEATH GAME. In the film, Reeves plays a devoted father and husband who, while on his own for the weekend, gives shelter to two young women who may or may not have ulterior motives. The film currently sits with a 36% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes and it didn't make much of a blip when it was first released but it's certainly gaining some traction now. I saw the film a couple of years ago and while I thought it was a bit over the top, it was a fun distraction that was worth my time in the long run.
