First off, I must confess that I have not had a chance yet to catch Rian Johnson's super cool whodunnit KNIVES OUT. However, I will be remedying my tardiness shortly, especially now that Johnson has just revealed he is working on a sequel! Just yesterday, the writer/director stated that he was "already developing a sequel centered on Daniel Craig's Southern detective Benoit Blanc investigating a new case". Apparently, the LAST JEDI messiah is looking to get this follow-up made quickly in the next year. Plus, Johnson's producing partner, Ram Bergman, added that Mr. James Bond was eager to reprise the role: "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more."
I'm not surprised that Craig is all-in for another. I mean, the dude scored a Golden Globe nomination for the role and I'm betting Oscar will be calling his name in the coming weeks. Because I haven't seen the movie, I wonder if anyone else from the original's all-star cast would be returning? Johnson may have tapped into a uniquely fun genre that audiences are ready to eat up. What do you all think?
In case you didn't already know, KNIVES OUT is a murder mystery about a family will reading where all hell breaks loose. In addition to Craig, the flick stars Chris Evans (AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, THE LOSERS), Lakeith Stanfield (SELMA, SHORT TERM 12), Michael Shannon (THE SHAPE OF WATER, MIDNIGHT SPECIAL), Don Johnson (THE HATEFUL EIGHT, DJANGO: UNCHAINED), Jamie Lee Curtis (HALLOWEEN, TRADING PLACES), Toni Collette (HEREDITARY, KRAMPUS) and Ana de Armas (HANDS OF STONE, BLADE RUNNER 2049).
