After watching the overwhelmingly successful resurgence of his fellow slasher, Michael Myers, upon the release of David Gordon Green's HALLOWEEN, Chucky of Don Mancini's CHILD'S PLAY series, is ready to spring from the confines of his Buddi Doll box to terrorize a whole new generation.
Late Thursday night, the entertainment outlet Trailer Track tweeted that they've confirmed that a trailer for Lars Klevberg's CHILD'S PLAY starring Aubrey Plaza, Bryan Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman will indeed be hitting the world wide web sometime next week. According to Trailer Track, MGM/Orion Pictures has asked that participating theaters screen the trailer before showings of director Nicholas McCarthy's THE PRODIGY.

It goes without saying that there's a lot riding on the debut of the CHILD'S PLAY trailer. After all, SYFY just acquired the rights to a television series featuring the red-headed murder doll, with franchise co-creator Don Mancini executive producing in addition to serving as writer of the show.
In talking about taking the franchise in a bold, new direction, Mancini remarked, “I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” said the Chucky co-creator. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
The upcoming remake, which has recently entered its post-production phase, will share a tale of terror that focuses on a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.
When the film arrives, Klevberg's version is expected to introduce a sleeker version of the serial killer kids toy, though the director promises that Chucky will be as blood-thirsty as ever upon his triumphant return. For now, all we can do is wait for the trailer, which by our estimation should arrive toward the middle of next week.
