Season seven of GAME OF THRONES recently ended with a bang, but Kit Harington’s (who plays Jon Snow) next project will be beyond explosive. BBC One released the first teaser today for the upcoming three-part drama, GUNPOWDER, in which Harington plays Robert Catesby, the man who spearheaded the infamous “Gunpowder Plot” of 1605. Blow em’ all the hell, Jon Snow.
Watch the teaser above, and get a look at the pictures below, and see your fantasy of Jon Snow wearing an old-timey hat come to life:
The plot was to blow up the British House of Lords in an attempt to assassinate King James I, but it was thwarted before it could be carried out. The show also stars Liv Tyler as Catesby’s cousin Anne Vaux, who became involved in the plot, and Tom Cullen plays Guy Fawkes. Though Catesby was the one who concocted the plan, Fawkes is the man most associated with the plot, and who is memorialized on Guy Fawkes Day every November 5. The show is set to premiere sometime this fall, but no official date has been set.
Harington has proven himself to be a fine actor with his work on GOT, and I hope that as the series winds down he can transition into some other notable roles. GUNPOWDER could be one of those roles, as one that allows him to explore a famous figure across several long episodes. Most people (especially fans of V FOR VENDETTA) may be aware of the “Gunpowder Plot” but few probably know about all its inner workings. The show should enlighten us, and teach us why we should switch to wearing Jon Snow masks on November 5.
