Over the past few years, we've seen musical biopic such as Straight Outta Compton, Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocket Man, and more turn into big successes, and it seems that legendary rock band Kiss might receive a similar treatment.
Deadline has reported that Netflix has come out on top in a bidding war for a Kiss biopic and are in the process of finalizing the deal. Shout It Out Loud will focus on bandleaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who are working closely with the production, as it goes all the way back to when two misfit kids from Queens formed an unlikely friendship and started Kiss and enlisted guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss. "Trying to set themselves apart from the 'hair' bands of the day, they accented their power chords and pyrotechnics with makeup," reads Deadline's description. "At heart, their formative story is in the vein of The Commitments, if that Irish soul band employed makeup and spiked heels." Joachim Rønning, who helmed Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales alongside Espen Sandberg and helmed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil solo, is slated to direct Shout It Out Loud. The film has been scripted by Ole Sanders based on an earlier draft by William Blake Herron. It's not clear when the project will begin, but Deadline says that it's on the fast track.
A few of the other musical biopic projects that are in development include a Bee Gees movie from Kenneth Branagh, a Whitney Houston movie starring Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Naomi Ackie, a Joey Ramone movie starring Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson, a Madonna movie that's actually being co-written and directed by Madonna herself, and more.
