Spider-Man: Kirsten Dunst is down to join the Marvel Multiverse as Mary Jane once again

Although many characters from past Spider-Man movies returned for Spider-Man: No Way Home, the original Mary Jane Watson was not among them. Although there had been rumours that Kirsten Dunst might return (alongside Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy) for the Spider-Man sequel, she didn’t end up making an appearance.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe diving headfirst into the Multiverse, there’s still time for Kirsten Dunst to make an appearance in a future Spider-Man movie. While speaking with Backstage, Kirsten Dunst expressed her desire to return to the MCU.

You know I’d join that multiverse! I feel like I’m the only one that hasn’t joined it. I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I need to pay for my house and kids.

Although Kirsten Dunst may not have appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, she’s doing just fine. Dunst has scored a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work on The Power of the Dog, one of twelve Oscar nominations the film has received including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and more.

Before Sony Pictures decided to reboot the Spider-Man franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man, a fourth movie in the Sam Raimi franchise was in the works and Kirsten Dunst has expressed her regret that it didn’t happen. “I wanted to be in that movie so badly,” Dunst said. “I loved it, and I wish we could have made a fourth.” As Sam Raimi has indicated a desire to return to Spider-Man after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, perhaps a long-belated Spider-Man 4 isn’t the pipe dream it once was.
