You know, I really liked KINGSMAN. It was fun, colorful, action-packed, and a nice respite from the BOURNE-ification of the spy genre (I enjoy the BOURNE series for the most part, but – besides the Craig BOND films – not a fan of its imitators). Regardless, it made an instant star of Taron Egerton, and an action star out of rom-com regular Colin Firth, so it makes sense a sequel is on its way.
Now, I'm a bit conflicted about this. On the one hand, it's a spy movie, so sequelization is built into its DNA. Not only that, but the idea of the KINGSMAN dealing with an American equivalent is an intriguing and potentially really fun idea, especially with the likes of Jeff Bridges and Channing Tatum in tow. However, the idea of bringing Firth back seems foolhardy, and reeks of desperation (he was indeed one of the best parts of the first film, but his death also meant something then, and would be negated with his return). Hopefully they find a way to mitigate that.
We'll see when the movie comes out later this year, but for now here's a quick teaser:
Hmmm. People talk about trailers giving away the entire movie, and it's actually quite possible this trailer did just that – but was just moving so fast you couldn't tell. Honestly, while that's most certainly not the case, imagine how ballsy that would be?
Meanwhile, KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE will charge into theaters September 29th, 2017.
