While the KINGSMAN series is known for its twist on the spy genre featuring stylish, nigh-comedic violence, it’s key to remember it all started with the relationship between Colin Firth’s Harry and Taron Egerton’s Eggsy. The two movies in the series are firmly rooted in exploring various angles of their mentor/mentee relationship, like Harry guiding Eggsy through his Kingsman trials in THE SECRET SERVICE and Eggsy trying to bring him back to normal in THE GOLDEN CIRCLE. The third movie is on the way, and director Matthew Vaughn has gone on the record and said the third movie will be about putting the finishing touches on their relationship.

Vaughn was speaking with Digital Spy about a little movie he produced called ROCKETMAN, starring Egerton as obscure musician Elton John. During the conversation, Vaughn was asked about the third movie in the series, and he said it would be the “final chapter” in the story of Eggsy and Harry.
"We've got to finish off the Eggsy and Harry relationship. The final chapter of their relationship needs to be told, which we've got ready to do, and I'm hoping to shoot that later this year or the beginning of next year.

The relationship of the two characters has been through the ringers between two movies, to say the least. In the first movie, Harry plucked Eggsy from a life of petty crime to become a Kingsman agent after his father gave his life to save Harry’s while he was going through his own Kingsman trials. Towards the end of that movie, Harry was shot by Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson), and though believed dead come the sequel, was actually alive and suffering from severe amnesia. Eggsy spent much of that movie trying to bring his memory back, as they teamed up to take down Julianne Moore’s Poppy Adams…with the help of Elton John.
The bond between Harry and Eggsy is key to the movies, and so if this is to be the final Kingsman movie for the two characters/actors than it certainly needs to send them off on a high note. Whether that means one of them dies or they simply go their separate ways – i.e. Harry going back North of the Wall to live out his days with the Wildlings – remains to be seen.
The next entry in the KINGSMAN series, the prequel THE GREAT GAME, is in theaters February 14, 2020.
