Revivals continue to be all the rage in Hollywood but this one might see a bit of support from its fanbase. Fox's animated sitcom King of the Hill could possibly be one of the next shows to make a comeback according to writer/producer Brent Forrester.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Forrester revealed that creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are currently in "hot negotiations" to bring the series back. Forrester also went on to reveal a key plot detail for the revival that made the show relevant all over again.
"I am sure Greg Daniels and Mike Judge will murder me for sharing this but… HELL YES. They are in hot negotiations to bring back King of the Hill. The Trump administration made it suddenly very relevant again. The characters have all aged 15 years. The project is sooooo good. Okay, I've said too much."
King of the Hill originally aired on Fox and centered on the Hills, an American family in the fictional city of Arlen, Texas. Patriarch and main character Hank Hill, who works as an assistant manager at Strickland Propane, is the everyman and general protagonist of the series. Hank is also friends with other residents on his block, especially Bill Dauterive, Dale Gribble, and Jeff Boomhauer, all of whom he has known since elementary school. Judge voiced Hank and was joined by the vocal talent of Kathy Najimi, Pamela Adlon, Brittany Murphy, Johnny Knoxville, Tom Petty, and Carl Reiner.
The series was well-known for attempting to maintain a realistic approach with humor being found in the mundane and conventional aspects of everyday life. King of the Hill ran for 13 seasons from 1997-2009 and consisted of 259 episodes. The series saw its best ratings during its second season when it averaged 16.3 million viewers which seems like a lost time considering today's network TV environment.
If this revival comes to light, it would mark another one for creator Mike Judge. Judge is attached to a two-season reboot of Beavis and Butt-Head at Comedy Central. Daniels is also busy currently working on the second season of Netflix's Space Force. It should be noted that there is no official news of negotiations to bring back King of the Hill but with Forrester being a writer and producer, I'm sure he has some insight.
