Killers of the Flower Moon: Martin Scorsese film has officially been confirmed for the Cannes Film Festival

The much-anticipated film from Scorsese, De Niro, and DiCaprio has been confirmed to premiere five months before release at Cannes.

Attendees of this year’s Cannes Film Festival are in for a treat as the new Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, will be making its world premiere on the Croisette on Saturday, May 20, in the Grand Théâtre Lumière, according to Deadline. The Scorsese film, which is currently joining The Whale for a movie only revealed through one still, recently announced its release plans from Apple and Paramount. The film is currently scheduled for limited release on October 6 before being released wide on October 20.

The much-anticipated film reunites Scorsese with not only his frequent collaborator, Leonard DiCaprio, but with his legendary collaborator, Robert De Niro. The plot synopsis reads, “In 1920s Oklahoma, the Osage Nation were the richest people per capita in the world after oil was discovered under their land. And then they were murdered, one by one. As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case and unraveled a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.”

Killers of the Flower Moon marks the sixth collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. Their working relationship began with 2002’s Gangs of New York, with DiCaprio appearing in four of the director’s subsequent seven films. It will also see the 10th teaming of Scorsese and Robert De Niro, which took a significant hiatus between 1995’s Casino and 2019’s The Irishman. (DiCaprio and De Niro did both appear in a 2015 short film directed by Scorsese called The Audition.) Other cast members include Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Lily Gladstone.

The film’s world premiere at Cannes puts a five-month gap in between its screening and its official release. Killers of the Flower Moon is currently confirmed to play as a festival selection, but it is not yet known if it will be included in competition. It is likely to be announced at the Cannes press conference which will take place in mid-April.

Killers of the Flower Moon will be joining other films making their debuts at Cannes, including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Wes Anderson’s newest outing, Asteroid City.
