Martin Scorsese’s newly anticipated film Killers of the Flower Moon is only weeks away from seeing its theatrical release and then making its way onto AppleTV+. The adaptation of David Grann’s book of the same name is already gaining praise for the performances of the lead actors. Many are saying that this film features a career-defining performance for frequent Scorsese collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio. However, the buzz around the film is that his co-star Lily Gladstone steals the show and shines through in a breakout performance.
Variety has the exclusive on Lily Gladstone being put on the path to make history as the first Native American indigenous actress to be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. With the accolades that the film is already collecting, Gladstone will be campaigning alongside her co-star DiCaprio for the top acting awards. When the film premiered at Cannes earlier this summer, it was met with a standing ovation, and talk had already started for her recognition with prestigious awards.
Along with DiCaprio, Gladstone joins the powerhouse ensemble cast that includes the likes of Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, Cape Fear), Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog, The Irishman), Cara Jade Myers (Rutherford Falls, Proximity), JaNae Collins (Reservation Dogs, Furky), Jillian Dion (Legion, Alaska Daily), John Lithgow (Cliffhanger, 3rd Rock From the Sun), Brendan Fraser (The Whale, Doom Patrol), and Tantoo Cardinal (Wind River, Dances with Wolves).
The film is said to be clocking in at over three hours, which is not unheard of for the Goodfellas director. Scorsese’s Netflix original, The Irishman, similarly exceeded three hours for his gangster epic, which reunited him with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. Killers of the Flower Moon will also campaign for other categories that include “adapted screenplay (Eric Roth, Scorsese), production design (Jack Fisk, Adam Willis), cinematography (Rodrigo Prieto), costume design (Jacqueline West), film editing (Thelma Schoonmaker), makeup and hairstyling (to be announced), sound (to be announced), visual effects (to be announced) and original score (the late Robbie Robertson).”
