Joss Whedon has been handling JUSTICE LEAGUE ever since Zack Snyder had to step aside for personal reasons, and it seems the AVENGERS director is cleaning house when it comes to the final cut of the movie. We were expecting to see tons of DC characters grace the screen, and according to a report from Batman News, the number of faces we’ll actually be seeing is diminishing fast. Soon it could just be Ben Affleck acting alongside some puppets.
The report claims that the character Iris West (played by Kiersey Clemons) has been cut from the final version of JUSTICE LEAGUE, meaning the love interest of Barry Allen/The Flash (played by Ezra Miller) will make her big screen debut in FLASHPOINT. Clemons confirmed some time ago her character would make her first DCEU appearance in LEAGUE, and that said scenes were, indeed, “f@cking sick.”
The report that Clemons would not be in the film came right on the heels of an announcement that scenes with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor had also been removed from the film, leaving one more character on the cutting room floor. There are still chances that both characters could show up in a director’s cut of the movie, but who knows if Whedon would do one and if Snyder would even be able to.
I don’t think there was much crying over the loss of Eisenberg in LEAGUE, as his take on the character was met with scoffs and raised-eyebrows from fans. However, I think there were plenty of people looking forward to seeing a brief intro to West in LEAGUE, given that we won’t see FLASHPOINT for, possibly, another two years – at least. Who knows, maybe we could see her in an extended cut like with Jena Malone’s character in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, but we have no clue if the flick will even get a longer cut. As long as it’s in the service of the movie I don’t mind scenes getting cut, and characters with them. Too many characters can be the downfall of movies like this, so if they aren’t needed then might as well chuck them.
JUSTICE LEAGUE arrives November 17.
