Kids vs. Aliens: January release announced for new film from Hobo with a Shotgun’s Jason Eisener

When we saw the teaser trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun (watch it HERE) director Jason Eisener’s new film Kids vs. Aliens back in September, it was said that RLJE Films would be giving the movie a theatrical, VOD, and digital release sometime in early 2023. Now we know exactly when that release is going to happen: January 20th! Kids vs. Aliens will then be moving to the Shudder streaming service sometime later in the year.

Written by Eisener and his Hobo with a Shotgun collaborator John Davies, Kids vs. Aliens has the following synopsis:

All Gary wants is to make awesome home movies with his best buds. All his older sister Samantha wants is to hang with the cool kids. When their parents head out of town one Halloween weekend, an all-time rager of a teen house party turns to terror when aliens attack, forcing the siblings to band together to survive the night.

The film stars Dominic Mariche (Are You Afraid of the Dark?), Calem MacDonald (The Umbrella Academy), and newcomers Phoebe Rex, Asher Grayson, Ben Tector, Emma Vickers, and Isaiah Fortune.

Kids vs. Aliens is produced by Cinepocalypse Productions’ Josh Goldbloom, Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska, Shut Up & Colour Pictures’ Marc Tetreault and Jason Levangie, and Yer Dead Productions’ Rob Cotterill. Tom Owen and Studio71’s Mark Ward, Adam Boorstin, and Michael Schreiber serve as executive producers.

Eisener had this to say about the project: “Bringing alien terrors to life is a literal dream come true. Kids vs. Aliens is inspired by my childhood nightmares and obsessions. Hopefully my parents will forgive me for using their house as our main location.

Eleven years have gone by between the release of Hobo with a Shotgun and Kids vs. Aliens because Eisener has been busy working on projects outside of the feature world. He contributed short film segments to the anthologies The ABCs of Death and V/H/S/2, and also directed the series The Dark Side of the Ring. The short he made for V/H/S/2 is quite similar to the set-up of Kids vs. Aliens.
