Over two years ago this month filmmaker Kevin Smith announced he was working on a sequel to JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK — JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT — which would bring back the lovable, crass, herb-smoking duo after years away from the big screen. For many, this was a “believe it when I see it” project, but now it won’t be much longer before we do get to see Smith’s latest film as he took to Twitter to announce that shooting will finally begin one week from today.

Smith took to social media on Saturday with the post, which referred to his near-fatal heart attack last year, writing, “I first posted about #JayAndSilentBobReboot on @instagram 2/9/17. It’s been 2 years and 1 week since that post, during which time I almost died. But a week from Monday, we finally start rolling on reboot. Never give up, kids. Even when your heart wants to.”
The most recent development on the movie came when it was announced last month that the movie would be released by Saban Films (SHOT CALLER, SIBERIA), taking over the rights to the franchise from Miramax. In describing the story, Smith said the movie will find “our herbal heroes found out Hollywood was making a movie based on them, so they journeyed out to Hollywood to stop it.” As a filmmaker, Smith said he has grown since their last adventure in 2001, and that fans can expect something “completely different.”

Star Jason Mewes has also spoken about the project quite openly, saying, “It’s not really a reboot, Kevin called it Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, and it’s us making fun of reboots, but the script’s awesome. It’s very funny.”
Well, all you Jay and Silent Bob die hards out there, are you excited for more Snoochie Boochie, Snoogans and all other variations of the Snoo? This was a project that took some time to get off the ground over the last two years, likely due to several reasons, including Smith having a major health scare with his heart attack. But now after much perseverance from Smith and passion from all the fans the movie is ready to roll in only one week, so for all of you who have had children in the 18 years since STRIKE BACK, get ready to show your kid what it kinds of movies kids in the early aughts had to sneak away from their parents.
