Kevin Smith is writing a Devil Cult screenplay, “very Race with the Devil”

This past Sunday night, Kevin Smith and his co-host Marc Bernardin broadcast another live episode of their podcast show Fatman Beyond on social media – and during their conversation, Smith revealed that he has started working on a screenplay about a "devil cult"!

A devil cult movie from Kevin Smith isn't something we should expect to see any time soon, if it happens at all. He has a lot of projects lined up; he's currently working as showrunner on the Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation, preparing to sell his horror anthology Killroy Was Here to a distributor, and the movies he's hoping to make include Clerks III, Twilight of the Mallrats, and Moose Jaws. But maybe this could happen somewhere down the line.

After recommending the 1990 movie Mister Frost, in which Jeff Goldblum may or may not be playing the devil, Smith said:

I love me devil movies. The other morning I woke up, I just started writing a devil movie. No immediate plans to do it, but I'm like, 'I gotta make a devil movie before I leave this world.' Because I love them so much. Being raised a Catholic kid, the devil is like the Darth Vader of the Catholic faith, he's always a fascinating bad guy. Rosemary's Baby is one of my favorite movies… I'm building a little cult movie. Very Race with the Devil, but not a road movie. More like Parked with the Devil. (laughs) I guess that's not a hot sell. … Yeah, I started that. Nothing serious where I'm like, 'That's my next movie!' But whenever I'm bored, instead of surfing YouTube or something like that I'm going to just throw a few more pages into this devil cult script."

Smith has discussed his devil movie fascination quite a bit over the years, talking up movies like Race with the Devil and the initial Omen trilogy, so it would be interesting to see what kind of story he would tell about the devil.

The Fatman Beyond episode with the devil movie confession can be seen below. The devil script talk begins around the 2 hours and 45 minutes point.
