Writer/director Kevin Smith has cast professional wrestler Chris Jericho in his films JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT and the upcoming horror anthology KILLROY WAS HERE, and has written a role for him in his "JAWS with a moose" script MOOSE JAWS – and amidst the movie work they're doing together, the pair are also working on a podcast project. As Smith described it to Wrestling Inc,
We're still figuring out if its Grains and Greens or Greens and Grains. But the idea is that we sit there and do a commentary track for a movie that we didn't have anything to do with."
This project started with the pair watching the 1976 film THE BAD NEWS BEARS while recording a podcast together. They then watched and discussed Quentin Tarantino's PULP FICTION. With their third "Grains and Greens" or "Greens and Grains" watch-along, they have now stepped into Arrow in the Head territory. Starting on the 666th episode of Jericho's podcast Talk Is Jericho and continuing on the 429th episode of Smith's podcast SModcast, they have recorded a fan commentary for the 1978 horror classic DAMIEN: OMEN II.
Directed by Don Taylor and Mike Hodges (Taylor replaced Hodges during production) from a screenplay by Hodges and Stanley Mann, DAMIEN: OMEN II finds that the Antichrist is now
a 13-year-old at a Chicago military academy and one step nearer the White House.
Raised by his wealthy uncle (William Holden) he slowly eliminates everyone who stands in his way as he makes inroads into big business and climbs to a position of power. A macabre thriller, marked by several bravura horror passages – a drowning beneath the ice of a frozen lake, a blinding from a raven's beak and death by power cable – and notable supporting performances from Lee Grant, Robert Foxworth, Lew Ayres and Sylvia Sidney. Jonathan Scott-Taylor features as the teenage Damien.
The enthusiasm and appreciation Smith and Jericho have for this film is clear in their commentary, which mixes interesting trivia with comedic observations. It's a lot of fun and well worth a listen – and Smith gives an Arrow in the Head shoutout at the 49 minute mark of the Talk Is Jericho episode!
