Kevin Hart to star and produce superhero comedy Night Wolf for STX

If Kevin's Hart's IMBD page has anything to say about the comedic actor's career, it's that a recent falling out over homophobic tweets from 2011 won't keep you down for long when you're one of Hollywood's most in-demand players.

It's been announced this afternoon that STXfilms has purchased the a superhero concept called NIGHT WOLF from the pen of POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Upon snatching up the popular project, the studio has landed Kevin Hart to star and produce via his HartBeat Productions label.

According to the feature's description, NIGHT WOLF follows a MEET THE PARENTS-esque encounter where a man (Hart) meets his future father-in-law for the first time only to discover he is secretly the superhero known as the Night Wolf.

“After we acquired Night Wolf, we submitted it to Kevin Hart and the Team at HartBeat hoping they would love it as much as we did. It is a big, broad comedy and the idea is great fun and perfectly matched with Kevin’s comedic talent. We are thrilled to be working on what will now be our fourth film together,” said Chairman of STXfilms Adam Fogelson in a statement earlier this morning.

“I am excited to be working with our friends at STX again. They brought us a great project with Night Wolf. I instantly fell in love with this pitch about an everyday guy who is meeting his in-laws for the first time and unwittingly discovers his dad to be is secretly a superhero,” said Hart.

NIGHT WOLF is poised to be Hart's third pairing with STXfilms, after inking a deal for two other comedies in which Hart will star. The first project under the agreement is titled BLACK FRIDAY, while the other is an untitled romantic comedy.

While I did make a jab at Hart's recent faux pas earlier in this article, I happen to be a big fan of his "little guy always goes big" persona, and I am definitely curious about this unique superhero project. After all, isn't it nice to hear of a superhero project that doesn't fall under the Marvel or DC banner? They're not the only ones in the game, and so long as the genre keeps printing money, competing studios are bound to try their hand at the capes and cowls category every now and then. Variety, it's the spice. Bring it on!
