For months and months, fans around the world were speculating on the title for the upcoming AVENGERS movie, which we now know is AVENGERS: ENDGAME. The folks at Marvel deserve a medal in Olympic-level secret keeping because Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed last night that he and the team had the title in place right at the start, able to keep it to themselves for all this time.

Feige was on the red carpet last night at the Golden Globes, there with the multiple nominee BLACK PANTHER. While speaking with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz Feige confirmed that the title was always in place, thus a line said by one character was entirely intentional.
“It was in place before we started developing the movie, or just as we were developing it, yes. So Doctor Strange says that line because we knew that was the title.”
He, of course, is referring to the line where Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) tells Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) that they were “in the endgame now,” all before becoming dust in the wind. Months ago a tease was dropped that the title of ENDGAME was already spoken once by a character in the past, and many fans singled out the “endgame” line. Fun fact, it’s also said by Tony in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (at the 35:30 mark), right as he’s referring to the greater threats not of this earth – his main reasoning for creating Ultron. So, who knows, maybe they knew the title even further back then when Feige said.
The title of the movie was revealed in a highly-anticipated teaser trailer, which didn’t reveal much in the way of juicy details. Apparently, the aim is to only show footage from the first 15-20 minutes of the movie, to which Feige said is all in the name of maintaining the surprise.
“As was the case with a lot of our films, this one in particular, being able to generate excitement without giving away any of the many, many, many, many secrets, would be ideal.”

Also, in the brief interview, Feige talks about the status of CAPTAIN MARVEL, saying everything is coming together smoothly in the editing bay, and that if he wasn’t on the red carpet that’s probably where he’d be. As well, he commented on the Fox/Disney merger and all the “hundreds” of characters that will be coming back to Marvel. Finally, he was asked about Guardians 3 and James Gunn, who has recently been hired to do a SUICIDE SQUAD movie. Feige used his answer to praise DC’s AQUAMAN, as well as say that GUARDIANS 3 is indeed happening, but when and with who behind the camera remains to be seen. So, yeah, a lot going on in a 4-minute chat.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME is in theaters April 26.
