Evan Peters' version of Quicksilver will make his big screen debut in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but the character will also be appearing in 2015's THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson (although it hasn't been confirmed by Marvel) as the speedster. So how's that going to work? Will fans be confused if there are two versions of the same character in different films?
Marvel's Kevin Feige spoke with the New York Daily News, and he says he doesn't think fans will be confused. Feige also talked about how Quicksilver is in a gray area when it comes to film rights for Marvel's characters.
"There are only a handful of characters that occupy that middle ground. Iron Man is not going to show up over there and Magneto is not going to show up over here. But there are a few gray points even after many years of negotiations … and that only happens with a character like Quicksilver, who has been a part of the X-Men, the son of Magneto in those comics, but also a primary Avenger. The characters are going to be very different. Other than their powers, general audiences might not even know — unless they read your article — that the two are related.”
But how will they be different? When Evan Peters was cast as Quicksilver in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, there was word that he might only be used for one important sequence in the film, but it did sound like Joss Whedon has bigger plans for the character in his movie. However, if Fox is planning on expanding the film universe for the X-Men, will Quicksilver be used again? One thing to also remember when it comes to X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is the time travel elements. If Evan Peters' Quicksilver is Magneto's son in the film, will changing things in the past wipe out his existence in the future, and how will that impact future films that could feature the mutant? I don't think fans will be confused with two different Quicksilvers, but right now there are a lot of questions on how they will be used in these upcoming films.
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits theaters May 23rd, 2014, and THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is scheduled to be released on May 1st, 2015.
