Yesterday, our very own JimmyO sat down to chat with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige to talk about the upcoming sequel CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and gleaned a few interesting nuggets of info about future Marvel films and characters, especially THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Two of the most common gripes about the Marvel Cinematic Universe are that we haven't gotten a proper sequel for The Hulk and that the character of Hawkeye was robbed of a better story in the first THE AVENGERS, as he was under Loki's mind control for more than half the film. Feige addressed those issues, giving a response that may allow fans to breathe a little easier.
So we have CAP 2. We have THOR 2. When are we going to get an INCREDIBLE HULK sequel?
It’s a good question. I would love to do that with Mark Ruffalo. But part of the fun of AGE OF ULTRON was saying, you’ve seen another IRON MAN adventure before, you see another THOR adventure and another CAP adventure, but we haven’t seen the Green Goliath again. So that was important in the characters you haven’t seen – Hulk being one of them and Hawkeye being one of them – ULTRON will make up for it. They have very big parts in AGE OF ULTRON.
It's a difficult task balancing an ensemble, but writer/director Joss Whedon has proven that it's one he's up to and I think we'll see each hero (and villain) get their due in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. That said, it seems that the word about the lack of Hulk and Hawkeye has gotten around and this time out we'll likely get a little deeper into the characters beyond "Hulk smash" and mind control.
THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
