Kevin Feige offers an update on the epic production process of Avengers 4

Now that Marvel's ANT-MAN AND THE WASP has buzzed its way into cinemas, fans of the comic book adventure studio are already chomping at the bit for what's to come in 2019. Of course, we already know that CAPTAIN MARVEL is scheduled to fly on March 8, 2019, and that shooting on the film just wrapped last week. It's also been made clear that the aforementioned adventure was shot in succession with AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, meaning that a fair amount of Carol Danvers' solo outing photography had already been captured. Now, it's all about the post-production process (i.e. re-shoots, sound editing, ect.).

With a promising new year of films ahead of us, one had to wonder where Marvel is at with presenting the follow-up to 2017's biggest ensemble blockbuster, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. Recently, while speaking with Birth.Movies.Death., Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told the outlet that the arduous editing process for AVENGERS 4 is officially in full-swing.

"We’re just starting the edit," Feige said. "The brothers [Joe and Anthony Russo] have worked on their cut, and we’ve been together in the editing room for a couple weeks now, so it’s very early days. But it’s much earlier than usual, right? Usually we’re still filming. Captain Marvel comes out in March, while this one comes out in May and we’re already starting. It’s fun to get a jump, it’s good having already shot the majority of the movie. So we’re just getting into our traditional editorial process now."

A year might seem like a lot of time to edit a film, though when you consider just how much went into the making of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, is it any wonder why Marvel would appreciate having a few extra months to work their magic? Honestly, I can't think of a single film in Marvel history that will be more anticipated than AVENGERS 4. With that in mind, I'm sure that Marvel will welcome the extra ticks of the clock when looking to make the film better, should they feel the need to do so.

"We try – what’s the analogy, that a goldfish will grow to the size of the bowl? Ant-Man and the Wasp had very little post and yet we made a lot of strides in post, and we did a lot of very good maneuvering on it with the limited time we had," said Feige. "Avengers 4 has much more time; Ragnarok had much more time and we did a lot. You always fill the time you have. Either you have a lot of time and it really motivates you to think things through, or you have no time, and it really motivates you to think things through!"

I have no doubt that Marvel will be throwing everything they have at AVENGERS 4, including the kitchen sink. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the outcome of the movie will change the landscape of the MCU for years to come. By that I mean that we could see dramatic character deletions, new teams, and younger, newer heroes entering the fray. After all, Marvel has already expressed interest in bringing G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel to the big screen, what if we got a Young Avengers or Champions film franchise as well? The sky is the limit, really. Anything can and probably will happen.
