Scarlett Johansson was the toast of the town at the Beverly Hills Hotel where the actress became the 35th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award, and Marvel boss, Kevin Feige, was among those in attendance. He was there to pay tribute to Johansson and, in the process, teased a “top secret” Marvel project with the actress that is unrelated to Black Widow.
As reported by Deadline, Feige began by praising Johansson for her “talent,” “vision”, “intelligence and savvy,” as an actress and producer and that’s when he hinted at a “top secret Marvel Studios project” that the studio is reteaming on with the actress that has nothing to do with her Black Widow character, Natasha Romanoff. Feige pointed out that Johansson is the first Marvel actor to executive produce one of the studio’s movies with Black Widow and that she will serve in that capacity again on an upcoming Marvel project. Since the project is “top secret”, he didn’t reveal what the project would be at the ceremony. Here is what Feige had to say:
“Scarlett has lent her talent and star power to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. That she’s chosen to play a key part in it for so many years, I am extremely grateful for. Working with her has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career.”
Considering how things went some months ago between Disney and Johansson regarding her lawsuit against the studio surrounding the release of Black Widow, it’s amazing to see everyone getting along here. To be fair, Johansson’s legal battle was with Disney and not with Marvel Studios or Kevin Feige so I’m going to assume she had his full support when it came to getting what was owed to her. Johansson alleged in her lawsuit that Disney breached her contract by releasing Black Widow on Disney+ and in theaters simultaneously. The initial response to the lawsuit was very nasty and it played out very publicly but it was ultimately settled with the actress reportedly earning $40 million in the process. The lawsuit wasn’t brought up at the event and all things seem to be going well even with Disney as Johansson is still involved with their Tower of Terror movie.
On terms of this particular award, Johansson finds herself in good company as the honorees, which goes back to 1986, includes Spike Lee, Bradley Cooper, Charlize Theron, Robert Downey Jr., Reese Witherspoon, George Clooney, Martin Scorsese, Julia Roberts, and many more. Johansson seems more than worthy to be a part of this club.
