Kevin Feige again says Marvel is committed to doing a solo Black Widow film

Marvel has supposedly been planning on eventually doing a solo Black Widow film for some time. 

We heard Kevin Feige talk about the idea in 2010 before the first AVENGERS even happened… and then again in 2014, when talking about whatever development has been done within Marvel Studios on a standalone movie. Hell, even just last year, Scarlett Johansson basically said it's time given how integral the character has been since her introduction. And yet, with Marvel laying out their vision for all of Phase Three as it builds towards INFINITY WAR (or whatever the hell it's going to be called), there is still no sign of a Black Widow movie on the horizon. There are all kinds of other superheroes getting top billing in their lone branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel – but still no Black Widow. But that hasn't stopped Kevin Feige from once again talking about the possibilities of a Black Widow flick and expressing how committed Marvel Studios is to making it happen. 

In a recent interview with Deadline, Feige was asked about the secondary characters Marvel has employed over the years – War Machine, Falcon, Black Widow, Hawkeye, etc. – who have played key roles at point or another, but who haven't quite gotten the opportunity to be elevated to their own adventures. You can be sure Black Widow came up in his reply. 

We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow… We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.

But how much truth is there to Feige's words? After all, he's been saying some version of this for a number of years, and we still find ourselves no closer to a Black Widow movie now than we did then. Is Feige merely paying lip service to the fans to keep them off his back until Mrarvel Studios is good and ready to make a Black Widow flick in whatever Phase they choose? Or is there real movement creatively to explore Black Widow's side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, away from her fellow Avengers?
