Kevin Costner wanted for both Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan reboot and the Luc Besson production Three Days to Kill

Kevin Costner seems to be in the midst of a resurgence. The man’s made some waves with the popular History Channel mini-series “Hatfields & McCoys” and will soon be seen as ‘Pa Kent’ in Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL.

Today, Deadline reports that Costner has been offered the “co-lead” in director Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan reboot opposite Chris Pine (STAR TREK 2). His role is reportedly “a new creation… a close cousin to the role of CIA bigwig Admiral Greer that was played by James Earl Jones in Patriot Games. Costner’s role is being invented because Jones will likely be in the prequel, but essentially Costner would play Ryan’s mentor who recruits him and shows him the ropes.”

Meanwhile, Luc Besson’s Europacorp is courting Costner to play a “dying assassin” in THREE DAYS TO KILL. The film, written by Adi Hasak and Besson and said to be like TAKEN, is a drama set in France that would follow Costner in the role of ‘Ethan Renner’, “a government assassin who is dying. Before he goes, he is determined to reconcile with his daughter, while taking on one final mission.” McG is said to be circling the director’s chair. McG potentially working with Besson now? Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. What do you think?
