I've recently started to become more of a fan of Kevin Costner. I had enjoyed Costner movies here and there over the years, but lately I've been gaining a stronger appreciation for his overall career. So I'm excited to hear that he has chosen a suspense thriller to be his next project.
Costner will be reuniting with his MAN OF STEEL wife Diane Lane for writer/director Thomas Bezucha's LET HIM GO. Based on a 2013 novel by Larry Watson (you can pick up a copy of that HERE), the film drops Costner and Lane into the roles of
retired sheriff George Blackledge and his wife Margaret who, following the loss of their son, leave their Montana ranch to rescue their young grandson from the clutches of a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas, headed by matriarch Blanche Weboy. When they discover the Weboys have no intention of letting the child go, George and Margaret are left with no choice but to fight for their family.
I haven't read Watson's book, but that sounds like a great set-up for some emotionally involving thrills.
LET HIM GO is set up at Focus Features. Focus and Universal Pictures International will be distributing the film. Bezucha is producing it with Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan of The Mazur Kaplan Company. Costner will be serving as an executive producer alongside Kimi Armstrong Stein, Jeffrey Lampert, and Rod Lake. Josh McLaughlin is overseeing the project for Focus.
Production is scheduled to begin in the spring.
