Jump back! Kevin Bacon is celebrating the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike in style, with the iconic actor posting a clip of himself reprising his iconic Footloose dance to X.
The 65-year-old actor, who looks amazingly slender and fit for a man his age, went all out for the clip, blasting the Kenny Loggins theme song while still showing off the dance moves he had forty years ago. Well, let me correct that – he showed off the dance moves one of his doubles had forty years ago, with the actor famously doubled by four people, including Peter Tramm, in the iconic warehouse dance. In the intervening years, Bacon picked up some fantastic moves of his own. In this era of reboots, were they to do a Footloose sequel, he could probably still play Ren, his iconic character from the original (we can all forget the Craig Brewer remake ever happened).
Hollywood is undoubtedly in a celebratory mood, with the 119-day strike bringing the industry to a standstill. Coupled with the now-settled WGA strike, everyone is eager to return to work, with tons of movies being postponed or cancelled altogether due to the strike. Disney’s already totally reworked their release schedule, while the Gladiator 2 set is being taken out of mothballs to start shooting again. Studios didn’t waste any time, with actors already back to junketing their new films, including Brie Larson, who’s been doing some last-minute plugging for The Marvels (not that it’s helped the box office). Upcoming tentpole movies like Wish and the awards-season films are expected to get hearty junkets, as other than Five Nights at Freddy’s and the Taylor Swift concert film, there haven’t been any hugely successful movies since the Barbenheimer phenomenon. While it will take some time for the industry to recover, here’s hoping people will take Bacon’s lead, cut loose, and kick off their Sunday shoes.
