Kevin Bacon has been in the acting game for years and has built quite the impressive filmography having appeared in films like FOOTLOOSE, APOLLO 13, and MYSTIC RIVER. Kevin Bacon is also no stranger to the horror genre and as he has been out promoting his latest horror effort YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT, a recent interview has him recalling a 1980 horror film about "doomed" camp counselors that has resulted in him having to sign the same grotesque photo the most over his entire career.
One of Kevin Bacon's big breaks came from playing Jack in the 1980 horror film, FRIDAY THE 13TH. The movie was just a job for a then very young Kevin Bacon and over the years he didn't give the role much thought but Bacon has found that he's asked about FRIDAY THE 13TH quite a bit. When it comes to autograph hounds, Bacon said in a recent "Entertainment Weekly" interview that he's "horrified" by the photo he has had to sign out of his whole career:
"I'm always horrified by the fact that, when it comes to autograph hounds, that's probably the number one picture that I'm asked to sign, Me, with blood coming out of my mouth and an arrow through my neck. You know, I'm a pretty easygoing guy. After a while, it just gets to you. You're like, really, do I have to sign another picture of me dead?"
The photo in question is the end result of his infamous death scene in FRIDAY THE 13TH. As his character lays down, a figure from underneath the bed grabs his head and shoves an arrow/spear through his neck. It's one of the most iconic scenes of the film and one of Tom Savini's signature gore effects of his career. It's simplistic in many ways but also quite jarring in its intensity. I suppose it could be unsettling to sign your "death" photo on a regular basis, even if it is from a fictional film. That being said, Bacon has a lot of love for the horror genre. YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT reunites Bacon with director David Koepp, the man that directed Bacon in the truly underrated horror film STIR OF ECHOES. Over the years Bacon hasn't avoided the genre, appearing in films like TREMORS and HOLLOW MAN, but the slasher genre isn't really his thing, despite his appearance in FRIDAY THE 13TH. Bacon goes on to explain that the horror films he enjoys watching have a more classic vibe to them:
"It is a genre that I really like. I like movies that have life or death stakes, I would say that, when it comes to the genre, I'm not so interested in slasher horror where teens in sweat pants are getting their throats cut. I really have always loved things like Don't Look Now and Rosemary's Baby and The Shining and The Exorcist and on and on and on."
Kevin Bacon can currently be seen in the Blumhouse VOD release, YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT. Co-starring Amanda Seyfried, the film follows a screenwriter that travels to a remote house in Wales with his family so he can write the sequel to his big hit film, but he begins to regret his decision after suffering from a severe case of writer's block. Soon strange events plague the family while in the house which is revealed to have a very dark past. The film became available on VOD services today.
