No one likes a good leading lady like Quentin Tarantino, and whether it’s Uma Thurman or uh, Uma Thurman, he has created some great female characters over the years.
His latest actress of choice could NOT be Uma Thurman however, as he had to find someone to play the long-suffering slave wife of Jamie Foxx’s Django. He’s selected Kerry Washington for the role, and reportedly had his eye on her from the beginning.
She’s not an instantly recognizable African-American actress the way someone like Halle Berry or Zoe Saldana would be (edit: Saldana is Dominican, whoops), but you probably have seen her in one of her many roles across films like THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, RAY, FANTASTIC FOUR or SAVE THE LAST DANCE. That’s the one I knew her best from.
Tarantino reportedly wanted to make a “discovery” in the role. He sort of compromised by choosing a veteran actress, but one who hasn’t been given a part this high profile before. What do you think of his choice?
