Ken Kirzinger and Brad Loree stalk and slash in Blackburn

Canadian stuntmen Ken Kirzinger and Brad Loree have played two of horror's greatest icons – Kirzinger was Jason Voorhees in 2003's FREDDY VS. JASON and Loree played Michael Myers in 2002's HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION. Although it's been more than a decade since they took on those roles, their slashing days aren't entirely behind them. The pair have picked up blades again to star in director Lauro Chartrand's BLACKBURN.

Scripted by Natasha Baron, BLACKBURN is

…set in a small Alaskan ghost town with a horrifying history. A forest fire and rockslide have trapped five bickering college friends overnight. Seeking refuge inside the abandoned Blackburn Mine, they must try to band together as they are mysteriously slaughtered one by one.

Kirzinger and Loree play horribly disfigured killers called Digits and 3Eyes, characters that make me think of the WRONG TURN films. Kirzinger has experience with that franchise as well, having played a mutant backwoods slasher in Joe Lynch's WRONG TURN 2.

Their co-stars include Lochlyn Munro, Emilie Ullerup, Calum Worthy, Sarah Lind, Zack Peladeau, Alexander Calvert, Brandi Alexander, Maja Aro, Jacqueline and Joyce Roberts, and Jen and Sylvia Soska.

Archstone Distribution has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for BLACKBURN and will be releasing the film under their genre banner Tombstone Distribution. Archstone is also set to serve as the film's sales agent in every other territory except for Canada, Germany, and the Philippines. Raven Banner is the distributor/sales agent in those countries.

A U.S. release date hasn't been announced yet, but I'm anxiously waiting to hear when we'll get a chance to see this one. It sounds like it will be right up my alley, and I look forward to seeing Kirzinger and Loree back in slasher action, teaming up to whittle down the numbers of these unlucky college kids.

While we wait for the release details, a trailer for the film can be viewed right here:
