Given that the headline is a slight spoiler all in itself, let’s just assume the rest of this article is spoiler territory for those who haven’t seen X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. With that said, one of the more welcome cameos at the end of the film was that of Beast. Futhermore, it was actor Kelsey Grammer reprising his role. X-MEN: THE LAST STAND may have gotten a lot of things wrong, but casting Mr. Grammer was not one of them. It may be a small surprise to you that Kelsey actually sought out his cameo at the end of FUTURE PAST.
In his own words:
Actually I called Bryan (Singer). I bumped into Hugh Jackman and he said, ‘Oh you’re gonna be in another X-Men, mate!’ and I said, ‘No I’m not, I don’t know anything about it.’ So I made a couple of inquiries, got a hold of the script, found out that, ya know, it’s primarily dealing with the past and that timeline I don’t have a place in, but I saw that at the end there was this coda where he made an appearance and I said, ‘Listen, I really wanna be involved,’ so Bryan arranged for it and we had a lovely time.
On whether or not he would return again:
I hope to do another. I hope they find some way to come up with a new story that involves Beast in my timeline.
I love Kelsey’s enthusiasm with the project, and I too hope that he is given a chance to return. With how events unfolded in FUTURE PAST, that affords us some interesting pathways to take with the X-Men. We know that X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will focus on the “FIRST CLASS crowd” in the 80s, but I don’t see any reason why a separate story couldn’t take place in the altered modern day timeline, where Beast, Cyclops, and others reside.
You can watch Kelsey Grammer wipe the floor with his acting in TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION on June 27, 2014.
