Update: Rachel McAdams offered True Detective lead, Taylor Kitsch to join

True Detective, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch UPDATE: Well, those Keira Knightley rumors certainly didn’t last long as Variety is reporting that MEAN GIRLS star Rachel McAdams has landed the female lead. They also indicate it is looking like Taylor Kitsch will be joining very soon. Both will be playing police officers alongside Colin Farrell.

Even though Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are officially locked in to headline the second season of HBO’s TRUE DETECTIVE, Nic Pizzolatto is still searching for his leading lady. The list of contenders grew last week to seven names and now we have a total of 10. Joining previously named contenders Rosario Dawson, Kelly Reilly, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Abigail Spencer, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander, Brit Marling and Rachel McAdams is Keira Knightley.

Knightley has been in numerous critical and commercial successes over the years since PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN put her on the map, but in recent years she has not reached that same box office clout that many expected. While her name is definitely bigger than most of the other actresses named her, Knightley would likely be a perfect fit for the dynamic of the series. Even though she doesn’t have a lot of experience in the genre, I could easily see her carrying something similar to her role in DOMINO.

We now know the series will be set in California and follow both a criminal and a cop as they investigate a murder with signs pointing to the female lead being a small town sheriff. The question is, do you think Knightley is a good fit for the material or is it too early to tell?
