Keanu Reeves is a real-life superhero, so it should be no surprise that he has an interest in them–particularly when it comes to playing Ghost Rider aka Johnny Blaze.
On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Keanu Reeves mentioned that his 10-year-old self would have loved to take a spin as Ghost Rider on the big screen. Since Reeves is a noted motorcycle enthusiast, that would at least cut down on some training time. During the interview, he also went into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, heaping praise on the franchise. “I think the way that the Marvel films have developed and what they are is really spectacular and it would be great to be a part of that.”
Johnny Blaze was of course most famously played by Nicolas Cage in 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2012 sequel. If Keanu Reeves ever did want to strap on the leather jacket and light his skull on fire, he would have some tough competition, as both Ryan Gosling and Norman Reedus have circled the role as of late. The character was notably featured under the Robbie Reyes iteration during a season four episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Keanut Reeves doesn’t necessarily consider himself a comic book nerd, but is most certainly a well-rounded fan, starting off on Archie before moving to underground series The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers before arriving at Marvel, with a particular fondness for the “Man” characters like Iron Man. He recently co-created the hit series BRZRKR with the great Matt Kindt (check out the banner image for the Reeves-looking star), the adaptation of which he has discussed potentially directing.
