Keanu Reeves wanted to play Wolverine but feels it’s too late now

Keanu Reeves can do just about anything in my book. He may not be our most honored thespian but he's usually pretty reliable to give us an enjoyable performance in films that are bound to entertain. Reeves was doing an interview with "SiriusXM" and the actor admitted there was another role he wishes he could play but he feels it's a bit too late now.

Reeves has been a longtime fan of Wolverine and he has also been the center of some fan-favorite casting for the role when it comes to picking up where Hugh Jackman left off after retiring from playing the character. Reeves really wanted to do take on the role but he seems at peace with not getting the chance to now:

"For me, I always wanted to play Wolverine. It is too late. It was filled really well. I'm all good with it now."

The internet seems to think that Keanu Reeves is immortal because he almost seems ageless but he's 55 years old, making him 23 years older than when Jackman made his debut as the superhero in the original X-MEN film. It's a physically demanding role but even that's not a problem for Reeves who is still kicking a** in the JOHN WICK films and is suiting up as Neo again in THE MATRIX 4. This all comes down to age at this point and maybe even the fact that Reeves may not have the necessary ferocity to bring Wolverine to life.

The question of who will be the next Wolverine has been plaguing comic movie fandom since Jackman stepped away from the role after 2017's LOGAN. Just today, we saw Taron Egerton, who has been another fan-favorite to strap on the claws, dismissing rumors that he has even been considered for the part although he's very flattered by the fans who are lobbying for him to step in for Jackman. Other fan suggested choices have been Game of Thrones alum Kit Harrington, who will actually be joining the MCU as Dane Whitman aka Black Knight in the upcoming THE ETERNALS. Jon Bernthal, of Netflix's Punisher, is another hot pick with many fan-drawings popping up on the internet of Bernthal seamlessly becoming Wolverine. Another inspired suggestion has been Shia LaBeouf, who has also been the source of some impressive fan-drawings that morph him into the character. There have been a lot of rumors that LaBeouf has been talking to the Marvel heads about joining the MCU but it's unclear who he could be playing and remember, they are just rumors at this point.

In the meantime, we can catch Keanu Reeves taking us on another "most excellent" adventure in BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC, which opens in select theaters as well as premium video on demand on August 28, 2020. He wasn't too old for this sequel. Could he still pull off a shot at Wolverine?
