There hasn't been much in the way of publicity for Keanu Reeves' next flick, JOHN WICK, especially considering that the movie hits theaters late next month. The story of a former hit man pursued by an old friend who was contracted to kill him was looking to fall by the wayside, but I have a feeling that's about to change. With the release of this trailer, JOHN WICK has gone from zero to must-see, and accomplishes more in it's 2 and a half-minute running time than 47 RONIN was able to NOT accomplish. This is one trailer that needs to be seen.
It's been a while since I've gushed over the action in a trailer (WINTER SOLDIER, no doubt) but I couldn't help but rewatch this trailer as soon as it ended. It was well-shot, I could make out what was going on, and it looked really badass. In looking up director Chad Stahelski, it seems that's no mistake, as the man has been a stunt co-ordinater on action flicks such as THE MATRIX, 300 and THE WOLVERINE. The man has also done some second-unit directing on THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE and NINJA ASSASSIN (to name a few). Suffice it to say, he seems to know the importance of shooting an action scene and this film looks to really deliver on that front. And it's under 2 hours? Thank the Gods. Tack on a great ensemble cast (very cool to see Alfie Allen aka Theon Greyjoy in there) and that makes this flick a must-see in theaters for me.
JOHN WICK will hit theaters on October 24, 2014.
