Ke Huy Quan on Harrison Ford & Spielberg following Everything Everywhere win

When Ke Huy Quan won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once, eyes weren’t just on him, but also Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg. Spielberg, who directed Quan in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and produced The Goonies, was in attendance for The Fabelmans, while Ford had the honor of presenting the Best Picture Oscar.

Reflecting on the moment Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture, Quan told Variety, “When [Ford] opened that envelope and read the title, it made our win for best picture even more special. And when I ran up onstage, I pointed at him and he pointed back at me and I gave him a hug. I just couldn’t help myself. I just want to shower this man with all my love. I gave Harrison Ford a big kiss on the cheek.” What resulted in the win wasn’t just a historic moment for the primarily Asian cast but a genuinely sweet moment between the former co-stars.

On the night of Everything Everywhere’s big night, Quan also shared the room with Steven Spielberg, a man he has praised endlessly over the years not just for encouraging him as a young actor but contributing to the inclusion of Asian actors in his movies. “Steven has given me so much — not one movie, but two movies. And they were the first ones to put an Asian face in a big Hollywood movie.” On the progress, Quan said, “Forget about 30, 40 years ago — even 10 years ago. Look where we are now: The landscape looks so different. We have a seat at the table. Our voices are being heard. Our faces are being seen, and it feels amazing.”

As far as upcoming projects, Ke Huy Quan currently has no movies on the slate, although he did say Cate Blanchett told him to choose the right project and not worry about what anyone may say, something she certainly knows quite well.
